So, I'm still working my way through my dvd's when all of a sudden, like a slap in the face, the theme tune changes to Jem Girls I know a lot of you are probably thinking 'yes' of course it does' but being approx. 30 years ago since I last saw Jem, I had completely forgotten!!
Am I the only person who thinks it is not a patch on the original Jem theme? It narks me now, probably something that didn't when I was 12/13 years old, but now it really grates! The original was amazing! It was edgy, pure pop, catchy and I would still proudly play it on my car radio to this very day! Jem Girls sounds like it was aimed at under 10's to me, and it's just so feeble and 'girly' and lacks the impact of the original
Also, why were The Misfits dropped from the opening credits? Does anybody here know? They were still a massive part of the show at this point, no sign of The Stingers, so why did they get cut out? Even just typing this, I'm thinking, were they trying to sweeten the show? Make the theme more kiddyfied, drop the aggressive Misfits from the opening, it's as though they were aiming at a new target audience.
What happened? Why the changes? Can you imagine if other well known TV shows suddenly changed their theme tunes? Dallas, Knight Rider, The A Team, just for a few examples, all with immediately identifiable intro tunes, imagine changing those?? I just don't get it?
OOOO, I'm feeling all grouchy now! Think I need to go listen to the original theme and cheer myself up! LOL!

I don't know why they changed the theme, but the Jem Girls theme is awesome!! However the original theme is much more well known, and I think the Jem Girls theme has a younger vibe and was probably focused more on Jem and The Holograms. I love both though!!

I never did like the Jem Girl theme taking the place of the original. Your thoughts on the reasoning for it sounds very plausible. I remember thinking as a kid that it wasn't a good fit for the show. "Me and my friends are Jem girls . . ." No! You really are not. You are a bunch of grown women.

Women are girls, and keep in mind that all us women have our inner girl. LOL

Well this is a bit of an older post, I’ll throw my two cents into the mix and state that I honestly like both. In a recent thread I mentioned my acquisition of the shout factory DVDs and for a hot second I noticed that the theme tune suddenly changed to Gem girls and now that I’m somewhere in the middle of season two on the episode “Danse Time”, back to the original theme tune… I don’t get it

I like both of the Jem theme songs, but I love the original song more since it has a very awesome beat and the lyrics are very catchy too.
