My first Integrity Jem doll was Showtime Jem. I purchased two of her. One to "play with" and one to stay boxed. Buying that one doll led to the purchase of many more, but only one of each for the following purchases. I have two things I would like to hear about from other Integrity Jem collectors.
1. Are you unboxing yours? My thoughts are that there is no use in having them if I can't touch them. I can't imagine I would ever sell them. I did unbox one of my Showtime Jem dolls. At 37 years old, there's not much I'm going to actually do with the doll, but I do love looking at them and think that would be more enjoyable with the dolls and accessories being out of the box. For those that have unboxed a Jem, wasn't there a weird indescribable excitement to see her with those earrings on once you FINALLY got them on in hopefully one piece? I've only unboxed that one because I'm not positive I want to unbox them all, and I have no place to display them so they are going to just go right back into the box.
2. For those that unbox, what are you doing about the matted, stiff hair? I don't like my Showtime Jem having flat, matted hair in the back. It looks good regardless from the front. I've read some ideas of what to do on dolls in general, but I would like to hear of what people have figured out works and doesn't work on these specific dolls.

I unfortunately have not unboxed ANY of my Jem dolls. :/ Not because I don't plan on opening them, but only because I currently have nowhere to display them. And I don't want to open them up only to not have a place to put them afterward and risk their hair and/or fashions getting damaged. So for now, I have to just look at them when a new release arrives. Thankfully with the way they are packaged, you can open them and inspect the contents without removing them.
Regarding the hair, I remember people mentioning on the JemCon forums that they gently washed their dolls' hair. I guess they removed the fashions beforehand, and were careful not to get any water or shampoo on the faces. I know especially with the first releases there was some kind of product in the hair that would wash out so they weren't so matted and crusty.

when i got Jem and Pizzazz, i washed their hair with regular shampoo but kept the front of their hair dry because i liked how it was styled. i let it air dry and then i just took a round brush and teased it a bit. Jem's hair has held up but Pizzazz's hair goes flat after a while so i might have to put a bit of product in it so it keeps its shape longer.
when i got Roxy i tried a different approach and just took my round brush and brushed the product out, and that has worked great too. i think it just depends on how stiff the hair is. some are worse than others!
since you mentioned the earrings, i wanted to mention that when i was putting Stormer's earrings in, one of the pegs snapped off when i was pushing it in. all my other dolls have not had a problem with the earrings, so just a head's up to anyone who hasn't opened their dolls yet to be extra careful with those but maybe i just had a faulty earring.

OH! and to anyone that has Clash, do not use a round brush on her because mine turned into a giant afro mess! I haven't had the chance to re-style her yet so she still looks like that unfortunately lol

lolo here are the answers to your questions: 1. I am NOT unboxing my IT dolls. 2. I noticed the matted hair, in a net, when the doll is unopened. I don't open my dolls, I don't know where to display them. I want to keep them in the boxes, with the sleeve keeping the lid and the box together. I JUST LOVE LOOKING AT THE DOLLS!!

I did breakdown and unboxed most of my dolls - I now have some Ikea cabinets that I can display them . I was purchasing two of each Jem versions; 1 to open and 1 to keep in the box as well but I tapered off with Twilight, Showtime and Award Night. I only have one Hollywood Jem that I left boxed but I'm wondering if I should at least take the plastic off around her knees - it seems like that might cause some issue with the fabric after a time? I picked out most of their hair with a comb, it took awhile but seemed to do the trick - Jem are the only dolls I have collected so I haven't gotten brave enough to shampoo hair yet.

I have not long started buying the IT Jem dolls and the only one I have at home is the Glitter and Gold doll, but I took her out of the box and her hair was HORRIBLE! It was rock hard in places, especially at the front, and crusty in others. There was no way I could live with leaving it like that, but I wasn't brave enough to wash it, so I actually combed it through with a fine toothed comb, starting at the bottom and working my way back up towards the scalp. It initially made it fluffier, but then I just stroked through it and shaped it with my fingers and I am much happier with it now. She no longer looks like that well known scene from 'There's Something About Mary!' (thank heavens!)

Yeah, the hair is hard when they are still in the boxes. It feels like hairspray or something...
