I recently saw this article featuring pics from a mall in 1989, and thought it would be fun to share and discuss it here. Did you all just love going to the mall on the weekends? What was your favorite store(s)? Post pics if you have 'em! www.rsvlts.com/2014/08/22/american-mall-1989/

Truly. It was an amazingly different time, that's for sure. There was always so much excitement about going to the mall. Hanging out with friends. Keeping up with the latest clothes. Flipping through racks of cassettes and CDs. Not to mention the arcades. I went to one of the local malls over the holidays, and it was depressing. Barely anyone there, and probably half of the store units completely unoccupied, vacant and shut. Even the food court only had like 2 places open and serving. This was a flagship mall that opened in 1984 (I remember the grand opening fondly)... *sigh* On a lighter note, could this be Pizzazz shopping for a new ax?

That sucks... malls should be like that again. I am currently desiring a job as a cashier at Hot Topic!! Oh BTW I wonder what the characters would have looked like IRL back then.

i dont go to the mall much anymore. a lot of malls i've been to over the last few years just seem to be filled with empty stores and is just depressing for me too. one of my favorite malls was torn down in the early 2000's and the only remaining part of it is the movie theater, so its sad to no longer have these places that were a part of your childhood and where you would go to hang out with friends. i mostly just remember always wanting to go to Spencer's or the candy store. there was also a place where you could get air-brushed shirts made. visiting the pet shop and eating pizza at the food court was always a must, and tossing some change in the fountain was something everyone used to do too but i don't see anyone do that anymore. feeling so much nostalgia in this thread! Good luck aphrodisiacc hope you can get the job!

kev My mall has a Spencer's and an airbrush tee place. Malls seemed to be pretty damn awesome in the 80s.
