Greetings all:
Recently my mom got me a late birthday gift in the form of the complete Jem series on DVD as the 11-disc set produced by Shout! Factory and I have the following questions:
1. Are the episodes on this set the original to Air versions? The reason I ask this is that I remember the following scene in the episode “The Beginning” from when it was on Netflix:
- Jerrica enters Starlight Music to talk to Eric
- Security Guard: “Your name”
- Jerrica: “Harry knows me!” Proceeds to elevator
—- cut to scene w/ Erics secretary painting her nails —-
And this scene when they’re hanging off the cliff after the Misfits steal their gear:
- Jerrica: Synergy’s our only hope
- Shana: it’ll take more than a hologram to get us out of tjis one
And in “adventure in China” I remember The Jemstar earrings malfunctioning in the airplane before the customs scene.
Is my memory just shot like Mandela Effect or something or did these scenes happen?
Further in this point, one of the episodes season 1 had the intro song (Version before “Jem Girls”) play with just the instrumentals no vocals... is that how the original to air version went or am I losing my mind
2. Can anyone offer their honest review of the set?
Did my mom buy a dud by my own request for this set on such short notice? Is this the preferred complete release in the community? I’d love your input
3. If all is well with this set (e.g passes all validation checks in the community, plays fine all the way through, etc.), I’d love to take a personal backup of the discs thus the “burn offs” come with me on road trips, get played when I need my Jem fix, and the originals stay safely in their case on the shelf; does anyone have a workflow to allow me to archive the discs to local on my linux laptop or a Windows virtual machine? I’d love the following solution:
3.1) have compressed versions of all episodes that are still of decent quality on my wireless media drive thus allowing burn to single layer DVDs
3.2) have full quality 1:1 replica of the discs as ISOs thus if the my burn copies get lost, damaged, etc. I can use the ISOs to remake them thus limiting the number of times I have to use the originals.
While professional-quality DVDs are quite robust, they’re NOT perfect and as such I would like to limit my risk of lost, stolen, damaged, etc. discs from wear and tear, accidental damage, etc. that’s why I’m really trying to take steps to protect the originals and limit the use of the original discs.
I would appreciate any help and suggestions on these questions.
Stay safe!
